ABOUT FRED CHARLES

Frederick Charles is an award-winning photographer of the built and natural world. Since establishing FCharlesPhotography, Fred works with leading architects, designers, engineers, editors, cultural institutions and corporations on new construction, historic preservation, commercial real estate, green industry, arts and landscape assignments. His images appear in Preservation, Landscape Architecture, Architectural Record, The Wall Street Journal, Smithsonian, LIFE, New York, TIME, Newsweek, Dwell, Artforum, TimeOut, RawVision and in noted books on architecture and landscape design. Fred’s work has contributed to prestigious client awards including the New York Landmarks Conservancy’s Lucy G. Moses Preservation Award for the Pierpont Morgan Library and the New York Botanical Garden Enid Haupt Conservatory for Beyer, Blinder, Belle and the Grand Conceptor Award from the American Council of Engineering Companies (ACEC) for JFK International Airport Terminal Four for Ove Arup/TAMS.

Fred’s yearlong landscape assignment for LIFE magazine, “The Seasons: A Year in the Life of an Orchard,” won an Alfred Eisenstaedt Award for Magazine Photography from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism. He exclusively illustrated The Public Art Fund’s catalogue of “Keith Haring On Park Avenue” and has covered major exhibits and artists at MoMA, The Jewish Museum, The Hirschhorn, MassMoCA and The Pocantico Center. Photography lectures include PhotoExpo, the worldwide photographic convention at the Jacob Javits Center and The Center For Humans and Nature. Fred’s recent photography of the David Rockefeller Creative Arts Center is on exhibit at The Pocantico Center and appears in the current issue of Preservation magazine, Winter 2023.
